Ups and downs II
Alexandra Greiss and Jorel Heid

A segmented tree is lifted and laid down by a mechanism of wooden gears, ropes, and pulleys, symbolizing the delicate balance between nature and human intervention. In its quest for profit, the actions of homo economicus threaten natural cycles. The mechanical dynamics of the installation Ups and Downs II remind us of this destructive power. Yet, through its cyclical motion, the work offers hope for a future where technology supports environmental preservation. The reference to the fragility of ecosystems and the potential for positive change is embodied in the movement of this nature-acting machine, guiding viewers toward the pursuit of new sustainable practices.
